Mineral Production during January 2014 (Provisional)

The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for the month of January (new Series 2004-05=100) 2014 was at 136.5. 

The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during January 2014 was Rs. 19369 crore. The contribution of coal was Rs. 6908 crore, Petroleum (crude) Rs. 5954 crore, iron ore Rs. 2613 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 1907 crore, limestone Rs. 406 crore and lignite Rs. 544 crore. 

Production level of important minerals in January 2014 were: coal 561 lakh tonnes, lignite 45 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 2980 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 33 lakh tonnes, bauxite 2287 thousand tonnes, chromite 294 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 11 thousand tonnes, gold 131 kg., iron ore 124 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 17 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 218 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 120 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 147 thousand tonnes, dolomite 512 thousand tonnes, limestone 246 lakh tonnes, magnesite 15 thousand tonnes and diamond 2442 carat. 

The important minerals production showing growth during January 2014 over January 2013 include ‘chromite’(46.7%), ‘Magnesite’ (26.6%), ‘bauxite’ (22.5%), ‘manganese ore’ (11.0%),‘iron ore’ (6.1%), ‘lignite’ (4.5%), ‘petroleum (crude)’ (3.0%), ‘gold’ (0.8%) and ‘lead conc.’ (0.2%). The other important minerals production showing negative growth are: ‘copper conc.’ [(-) 0.3%], ‘coal’ [(-) 0.7%], ‘limestone’ [(-) 1.0%], ‘natural gas (utilized)’ [(-) 6.0%], ‘dolomite’ and ‘zinc conc.’ [(-) 19.3] each, ‘diamond’ [(-) 20.1%] and ‘apatite & phosphorite’ [(-) 32.2%].
