Syria university blast toll rises to 85 with mostly students among dead


Aleppo:(News Agency, SANA)- In Syria ,85 persons, mostly students have been reported killed in two powerful blasts inside the Aleppo university campus on Tuesday. The toll is likely to go up with many being treated in critical condition. The incident took place yesterday in the locality which is controlled by the Syrian regime and the blasts ripped through the Aleppo University’s Department of Architecture and the student’s hostel.
The Syrian Government and the opposition have blamed each other for the attacks. Syria's Official News Agency, SANA reported that the terrorist groups fired two missiles at the university on the first day of the mid-year exam period. Syrian UN envoy Basahr Jaffari told UN Security Council that it was cowardly act by the terrorist who always strike when some meeting of Security Council on Syria is in session.
However, the Syrian opposition activists claimed the Syrian air force carried out two airstrikes in which 83 people were killed. Those killed in the incident were students and people who were staying at the university after being displaced by violence elsewhere. Syrian education ministry has called a day of national mourning day and the Aleppo University has postponed all examinations till Monday.
Aleppo, the Syria’s largest city and the commercial hub has been under intense fighting with rebels trying to take control of the city. However the well armed Syrian forces have been holding ground in almost two third of the city while one third has been in control of rebels led by Free Syrian army.
