Shri Ismail Suleman Ji Khatri was born in the year 1937 in Dhar at Madhya Pradesh in a traditional Bagh Printer's family. Both his father Shri Suleman Ji and mother trained him when he attained the age of twelve. He learnt this craft from his father and grandfather as a devoted craftsman. In spite of many difficulties, he continued this ancestral craft with great ability and devotion.
He received State Award in 1976 and 1977 and National Award in 1984. He took part in exhibitions all over the country as well as in foreign countries bringing acclaim to Indian craftsmanship. He has trained more than 2500 artisans in Guru Shishya Parampara.
Shri Ismail Suleman Ji Khatri received the Shilp Guru Award for his valuable contribution to Bagh Hand Block Printing craft His death is a loss to the world of Handicrafts.
