AP Bifurcation: Curfew in Vizianagaram


 Vizianagaram:-Curfew has been clamped In Vizianagaram town in Andhra Pradesh following violence with mobs indulging in large scale destruction and arson during their demonstrations opposing the union cabinet’s decision to bifurcate the state. The pro-united Andhra demonstrations turned violent on the second day yesterday of the 72-hour bandh. 

Despite prohibitory orders in place, the agitators repeatedly attacked the properties of PCC President Styanarayana expressing displeasure that he failed in preventing bifurcation. 

A Deputy Superintendent and six other police personnel were injured when mobs pelted stones and half a dozen buses and jeeps were burnt. Police lobbed several rounds of teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disburse angree mobs. Inspector General Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said in Hyderabad that curfew will continue till the situation is brought under control. Additional forces are being sent to Vizianagaram.

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the Chief Secretary P K Mohanthy and DGP Prasad Rao to take stringent action against the anti social elements and leave no stone unturned to maintain law and order especially in Raylaseema and Coasatlandhra regions. 

The pro united Andhra agitation has also intensified with Electricity Employees Joint Action Committee joining the strike.
