Lawlessness not to be tolerated, police to carck down on offenders to ensure women saftey: Home Secy


New Delhi:(Page3 News Network)-Home Secretary RK Singh on Friday said, lawlessness will not be tolerated and the police will crackdown heavily on offenders to ensure safety of women and the general public.
Addressing the media in a joint press conference with Delhi Police Commissioner, he said, the police will seek life sentence for the perpetrators of the gang rape of a 23 old paramedic in a moving bus on last Sunday in view of aggravating circumstances of the case. He said, the charge sheet in the case will be filed soon and the government will request for day to day trail. The Home Secretary claimed that police has sufficient evidence for the conviction of the accused.
Mr Singh said the police has intensified action against buses with tinted glass and the vehicles found with tinted glasses will be impounded. The staff of buses, autos and taxies will be verified and strict action will be taken to curb drunken driving and other illegal activities. He said, transport department has been asked to issue permits only after police verifies the staff.
Mr Singh said, drivers with license from other states will be put to test before being allowed to ply vehicles in national capital. The transport department has also been directed to put more buses on duty during night to ferry commuters. Mr Singh said, there is no diversion of staff for VIP security from the normal policing duty. Replying to a query, the Home Secretary said, advisories have been issued to other states and Union Territories also to ensure safety of women.
The Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said, the charges amounting to attempt to murder under IPC 307 has been added to charge sheet against the accused in the gang rape case. He said swift action of the Delhi Police helped in getting timely medical attention to the victim. Mr Kumar said, the Delhi Police has cracked the case in record time and also collected important evidence for pressing the charges.
